Saphir bv, was founded by Hans Oosterman in Rotterdam in 1979 for the import and export of fresh fruit, vegetables and exotics.

From 1979 untill 1987 we were situated in the Rotterdam Fruit Port. In those days most of the produce we imported from overseas arrived by conventional vessels. Our European imports, however, were already handled in Barendrecht , situated just some kilometers south of Rotterdam. When more and more imported goods from overseas started to come in to our coldstore in Barendrecht by container instead of by conventional vessels into the port , we decided to move our office to Barendrecht as well.From that time on our product range has steadily grown, as have the number of countries of origin. Late in 2004 the foundation of our new offices and coldstore in Ridderkerk, next to Barendrecht , were started and the new building was opened on 1th of Octobre of 2005.Our modern coldstore has a total area of around 7000 square meters with a capacity of about 4000 pallets. Nowadays, therefore, we receive all our produce, both from overseas and Europe, in Ridderkerk . As already mentioned the produce from overseas is mostly delivered to us by container,to keep the line between the source of the produce and our store as direct as possible . In this way it's also easier to keep the best control on the produce.



From Ridderkerk we distribute our products to supermarkets , importers , exporters , wholesalers , processors and juice suppliers both locally and throughout Europe.
